6 Reasons Why You Should Prioritise Self-Care?

Even if you weren’t personally affected by any one of the challenging events of 2020 — the pandemic, the economic crash, the protests, dangerous wildfires…

… many of us still felt the effects of added stress, anxiety, and grief, manifesting in things like headaches and sleep deprivation, or even the exacerbation of current illnesses or chronic conditions.

There’s no doubt in my mind that the physical and mental effects of this year’s constant turmoil could linger in us for years to come.

But as I reflect on the challenges of this year, I also think of what’s helped me through it: friends, family, online communities, and meditations and self care practices that helped keep the stress at bay.

Self-care refers to any activity that we engage in to maintain and nourish our health, including mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. While it may seem like an obvious concept, self-care often gets cast aside for more pressing priorities such as work, family and the everyday pressures of life. There are many reasons why you should prioritise self-care and I’ve listed six of the most important below.

1. Improves mood swings

I started Investing time in my own care had a major impact on my mood, leading to greater optimism and positivity. It helped me to feel happier, more satisfied and better able to cope with the challenges that life throws you way. Even taking a small amount of time per week to nurture my physical, emotional and mental health can be hugely beneficial on my mood.

2. Helps relationships

Self-care helps me to be the best version of yourself, which in turn as a positive impact on your relationships. Taking regular time to invest in my personal health allows me to be happier and more stable as an individual. This has a flow on effect as it allows me to be more patient and accommodating with others and therefore have better relationships.

3. Decreases risk of burnout

I lead a busy life and I regularly invest in my self-care routine as it is necessary to avoid burnout. Find a form of self-care that works for you, whether that be taking a walk, spending time with family or getting a massage, and commit to engaging in it regularly. It will help to manage your stress and prevent burnout.

4. Makes you become more present

Spending time managing yourself allowed me to become more present and engaged with my surroundings.

You are likely to have a better understanding of what it takes to maintain your mental, physical and emotional health, thus resulting in you having a greater focus on your current mood and trigger that have the potential to impact your health.

5. Better performance

Self-care is often seen as indulgent, when in actual fact it can have a much broader impact. Looking after yourself helps to maintain your health, which in turn allows you to perform better in all aspects of your life: work, family, sport.

6. Increases quality of life

A Guide To General Female Health and Holistic wellbeing

Source: Magazine Holistic Well-Being and Wellness

A number of novels and stories of the early 18th and 19th centuries often portray women as mad and irrational beings, thus, espousing the creation of mad women literature. But, modern medicine dispels this “mad” attribute.

By establishing that women’s hormones are more sensitive and susceptible to change than that of men, we drive more attention to female health. Menstruation, menopause, PMS, and perimenopause – these are all part and parcel of general health topics related to women.

Aside from that similarity of being part of female health, these phenomena are due to one thing: hormonal changes. Hormones are fickle, they change with the slightest variation in diets or physical activity. Sometimes even emotional upheavals are enough to make women’s hormones go haywire.

I have read several research studies on female health that have come up with the relationship of female psycho-emotional well-being and their physical health. More often than not, hormones are the established links between this relationship.

Hormonal imbalances are the usual culprits for a number of health disorders in women. Although some of the symptoms are associated with other illnesses, their root remains to be unbalanced hormones. As varied as general health topics are, they range from physical manifestations to psychological and emotional troubles. Physical manifestations of hormonal imbalances include fatigue, weakness, weight gain, weight loss, digestive problems, hot flashes, and joint pain. Other symptoms are more pronounced and less insidious like hair loss and dry skin.

Unfortunately, with the demands of career and family life, I have met many women who have often ignored these symptoms as merely due to excess work and overall tiredness. Some attempted to cure their symptoms with remedies and rest that did not work.

In my opinion,Hormonal imbalances need medical attention and hormonal supplements must be treated properly.

Otherwise, symptoms grow worse with heart palpitations, increased nausea, urinary dysfunction, breast pain, and vaginal dryness.

I have had clients who had extreme cases for counselling

If the symptoms and conditions above are bad enough, they are just the hormonal imbalances’ physical aspect. Usually cropping up as manifestations of other psychological disorders, the psycho-emotional aspect of these imbalances are often disruptive.

There are so many cases where woman confess of being unable to function at their normal levels.

Some of the minor symptoms include cravings and mood swings. If women don’t receive timely treatment, they progress to worse conditions like lack of sexual desire, depression, insomnia, and unclear reasoning. It’s no wonder that general health topics and concerns about women often include well-being exercises.

But, I feel these imbalances are not permanent afflictions. With proper diet, exercise, supplements, and counselling, women are able to get their hormones back on track. However, early detection is a key factor in treating hormonal imbalances. According to me, its imperative not to dismiss the symptoms as just belonging to general health topics or issues.

Hormonal imbalances are not just topics — they are real, and they happen to more women everyday.

How does your holistic health and living impact women’s fertility?

Previously my eating choices were unhealthy and it was all linked to a lifestyle issue than a nutritional & fitness related one.

What I discovered during my health treatment journey was that a healthy gut wall is permeable , which means that it allows for the transfer of Nutrients. Digested fats, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins , minerals, phyto-nutrients and water are transported across into the bloodstream.

My gut was allergic to gluten i.e. wheat and diary -they were the common triggers but they formed a major part of my daily diet. If you suspect you might suffer from a food intolerance , consider consulting a nutritionist for advise and a comprehensive allergy screening.

A healthy gut won’t allow toxins to enter , they can get across into the bloodstream if there is a low intake of beneficial minerals, such as calcium , magnesium and zinc ..If you tend to be an alcoholic then it is going to be extremely conducive to attack. Optimal levels of healthy bacteria in the gut are vital.

The startling truth is that the media, all the new magazines, television shows. They’ve secretly been keeping you fat for years.Even doctors for that matter want to see you more often at their clinic.

Or in the least, they’ve certainly not HELPED you lose weight or body fat or in fertility issues.

My biggest discovery was that >> Your fertility is not in the body it lies in awakening your mindset/soul consciousness and first creating an abundant lifestyle for yourself !

The biggest and truest honour one can do is to Honour one’s creator and creative power within. Once we do that – then everything is harmonious and balanced!

We will talk in the coming blog series on how doctors and media and societal pressure creates a negative influence on your creative mindset and how you can unlock your creative potential – including conception!
